B1 Navy Jazz Band for the cover of Military Officer. Being a WWII AND Jazz enthusiast made this an amazing job to work on. These history-making musicians were the 45 members of the all-black B-1 Band, organized in Greensboro, N.C. They were the first African- Americans to achieve a rank higher than messman in the modern Navy. The highest rank achieved by any member of the B-1 Band was musician first class. They helped desegregate the Navy during WWII.
